ugh.

Ian Smith was the worst.  His blatant ignorance, arrogance, vitriol, and overall terrible-ness makes my heart sink and my passion for what I'm doing right now rise even further.

How can he say this? How?

"They [the liberal party] have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by communist propaganda, which besmirched colonialism as suppression and exploitation...In reality, colonialism was the spread of Western Christian civilisation, with its commitment to education, health, justice and economic advancement into areas which were truly 'darkest Africa'.  The people in these areas of sub-Saharan Africa had never seen a white man, had no written language, no medical facilities, and no currency, and so barter was their only means of trade...The development and advancement of the people of sub-Saharan Africa has been remarkable, and today they enjoy a standard of living which is much higher than that of a number of other Third World countries; the credit for this is due to colonialism." (from Bitter Harvest, p. 144)

I sincerely hope he has learned better in the next life and has changed since his death.  This makes me so incredibly sad.  So sad.

You realize of course, that this will raise the hackles on the backs of the necks of many a white Rhodesian/Zimbabwean. What people do NOT think about is the imposition of Smith's kind of thinking that has lead to the awful state that the country is in now. What? What? I know that's going to raise temperatures considerably. The truth for me is that intelligent people who have this desire for power will work on the minds of those they gain that power over to give only one side of an equation but forgo explaining what the answer will be. Forcing others to YOUR will is not the answer. Christ again, should be the example. Adapting this scripture totally applies I think.

Doctrine and Covenants 121:41
No power or influence can or ought to be maintained .... only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;

Most politicians don't even consider this kind of leadership.
